Each November The NEK
Council on Aging, The Administration for Community Living (ACL), the Caregiver
Action Network (CAN), and caregiver advocates across the country honor National
Caregiver Month. It is a time to recognize and honor unpaid family caregivers
across the country. This year’s theme “#CaregiverAnd” is intended to celebrate
the identities and passions that enrich the lives of family caregivers. An
element of self-care is for caregivers to take time for their own interests and
passions.
“The #CaregiverAnd theme focuses on the support and assistance that individual
caregivers need to continue their demanding job, of selfless dedication to
their family member, neighbor or friend,” said Meg Burmeister, Executive
Director. “Every caregiver’s journey is different and we encourage every member
of our community to recognize and engage in assisting caregivers when they can.
You never know what someone may be going through.”
In addition to offering support for caregivers which includes one-on-one
guidance, respite grants, monthly support groups, advocacy, and assistance from
community partners, the Council is pleased to announce a new partnership with Trualta,
an interactive e-learning platform to help manage care for aging adults at
home. The service is free and is accessible over the internet.
Trualta, offers hundreds of evidence-based online lessons through video, audio,
printable pages, tip sheets and interactive e-learning. Lesson subjects
include, but are not limited to personal care, safety and injury prevention,
grandparents raising grandchildren, dementia support, brain health, caregiver
wellness, and music therapy for Alzheimer’s clients.
“Trualta allows caregivers 24/7 access to materials to learn about health
issues, care techniques, and ideas for supporting their loved one confidently
and privately at home,” said Karen Desrochers, Director of Client and Caregiver
Support. “It is vital that caregivers feel included and valued and the materials
provided by Trualta will hopefully provide skills to assist a loved one with
everyday care activities.”
The NEK Council on Aging is the first organization in Vermont to partner with
Trualta. Their service is easy to use for all ages, completely private, and no
app is required. It can be used on any browser, computer, laptop, phone or
tablet. Trualta will be making a presentation of their services at the
Counsel’s Annual Meeting on November 29th at 2 p.m. via Zoom. The
Zoom link can be acquired via the website www.nekcouncil.org.
“We are proud to partner with the NEK Council on Aging to help family
caregivers feel confident and keep loved ones at home longer,” said Jonathan
Davis, Founder and CEO, Trualta. “We partner with organizations to develop
confident and competent family caregivers that can manage care at home. We
focus on reducing caregiver burden while improving outcomes and reducing costs
for our aging population.”
