Volunteering with NEK Council on Aging provides me with a way to channel my energies towards positive outcomes for others, while sharing my own resources and thus making better use of them. The experiences that I am having as a volunteer illustrate to me the tremendous benefits of working interdependently with neighbors so as to strengthen ourselves and our community.”

Neil Glassman, Tech for Today Coordinator

Our Tech for Today program aids our elder community members to live well by helping them clear technology hurdles using computers, tablets, cell phones, and the Internet.

The goals of the program are greater independence, reduced isolation, and staying connected with family, friends, and resources. Home visits are our most frequent means of providing assistance. Office visits and virtual help sessions are also options. Issues are commonly addressed during a single visit, though a series of support sessions are provided when needed.

Tech for Today services are available at no charge to those aged 60 and older in Caledonia, Essex, and Orleans counties. If you or a loved one is in need of technical support, call our Help Line toll-free at (800) 642-5119.

We are seeking volunteers to assist us in growing our Tech for Today support network. If you are tech-savvy and can patiently take others through the steps they need to be connected, you may be our next Digital Champion!

For information relating to the Tech for Today program, contact Neil Glassman (802) 745-2284 or email nglassman@nekcouncil.org.

"I am so grateful for Neil's help.  I could barely use my flip phone for simple phone calls, and it was outdated. I was able to get a new smartphone and Neil has helped me to keep in touch with medical appointments via texting and I am now learning how to use the calendar.  I am the transportation for four friends to and from medical appointments at Dartmouth, NVRH, and Burlington and managing my schedule in a planner is hard.  He is very patient and understands that I may not get it the first time. He is the real deal, thank you!"     Frances from Lyndon, VT

Brooke Brown, Volunteer Wellness Program Coordinator

Brooke leads our at-home wellness program where volunteers provide one-on-one wellness support to elders in their home.

She is certified as an Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program and Fall Prevention Tai Chi leader.  The NEKCOA pays for training in Fall Prevention Tai Chi and Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program leaders.

The above wellness services help to maintain strength and mobility for elders who need assistance with a transition from medical treatments to home or for those who have the desire to continue wellness programs but have difficulty venturing to an outside location.
