Heartfelt Health: Prioritizing Your Heart This February

February is American Heart Month, a time to focus on the well-being of one of our most vital organs—the heart. In the Northeast Kingdom, where neighbors look out for one another, we want to remind you that caring for your heart is one of the best ways to stay healthy and independent.

At the NEK Council on Aging, we know that heart health isn’t just about numbers on a chart—it’s about real people, real lives, and real connections. That’s why we offer resources to help older adults stay informed and supported in their journey toward better heart health.

Small Steps, Big Impact

Taking care of your heart doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Small, daily habits can make a difference, including:
❤️ Eating well – Our meal sites and home-delivered meals offer nutritious options to support a heart-healthy diet.
❤️ Staying active – Gentle movement, even short walks or stretching, can improve circulation and overall heart function.
❤️ Managing stress – Finding time for connection—whether it’s a friendly chat with a neighbor or a support group—can ease the burden of stress on your heart.
❤️ Keeping up with care – Regular check-ups and medication management are essential. If you need help navigating healthcare options, our case managers and SHIP counselors are here to assist.

We’re Here for You

Whether you need nutrition support, help understanding your healthcare options, or just a caring voice to guide you, our team is here. Heart health is about more than just numbers—it’s about feeling good, staying strong, and living well with the support of your community.

If you or someone you know could use a helping hand, reach out to us today. Call 800-642-5119, email info@nekcouncil.org, or visit www.nekcouncil.org to learn more about our programs.

This February, let’s take care of our hearts together—

because a healthy heart means more time for the moments that matter most. ❤️
