Welcome to "The Scoop," the Council on Aging's Nutrition and Wellness Newsletter. In this edition, we will be discussing several important topics related to the health and well-being of older Americans.
Firstly, we will be exploring the Older Americans Act of 1965, which was designed to improve the lives of older adults by providing them with access to a range of essential services, including nutrition programs, health care, and social services.
In addition to this, we will be taking a closer look at how alcohol affects the body after the age of 65. As we age, our bodies become less efficient at metabolizing alcohol, which can increase the risk of a range of health problems. We will be discussing some tips for older adults who choose to drink alcohol, as well as some alternatives to consider.
As always, we will be sharing some delicious and healthy recipes, as well as some exercises that can help older adults stay active and maintain their mobility.
Lastly, we will be delving into the role that potassium plays in regulating blood pressure. This essential mineral is critical for maintaining a healthy cardiovascular system, and we will be discussing some of the ways that older adults can incorporate more potassium-rich foods into their diets.
We hope that you find this edition of "The Scoop" informative and helpful in your quest to live a healthy and happy life.
