Legal, Financial & Personal Safety

Under our previous name of the Area Agency on Aging for Northeastern Vermont, we were one of 10 regions in the United States to receive a ground-breaking grant from the National Committee for the Prevention of Elder Abuse in 2007. As a result of that award, the NEK Council on Aging continues to support the Northeast Kingdom Vulnerable Adult Action Coalition.

Our Elder Justice program works closely with local law enforcement, social service and health-care partners. We provide education for and outreach to older Vermonters and service providers on issues and concerns related to abuse, neglect, self-neglect, and the exploitation of vulnerable adults. Lynn Goulding is the Council’s Case Manager Supervisor/Elder Justice Specialist.

Always call 911 in an emergency.

Concerns of abuse, neglect and exploitation should be reported to Adult Protective services (APS): 1-800-564-1612.
